We attempt to schedule acute illness visits on the same day you call, as often as possible. For problems that have been going on for some time, we feel your best care will be with your primary pediatrician as they know your child best. Our staff is trained to ask questions to help us decide the most appropriate scheduling for your appointment.
We encourage you to visit the "Is Your Child Sick" link on our website for inital information about many common childhood illnesses. Please feel free to call us if you have questions about how to care for your child and whether your child needs to be seen in the office. For your child's safety, we do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone without first seeing the child in our office.
Most childhood illnesses can be diagnosed without laboratory tests. A review of the symptoms and thorough physical exam are usually sufficient. Occasionally a urinalysis, throat or urine cultures are needed and these can be done in our office. When blood work or x-rays are necessary, these can be conveniently obtained at a local lab or radiology center, or after hours at a nearby hospital.
We make every effort to schedule appointments for ill children on the day that you call us. Please call our office ahead of time so that we can minimize the time that you will spend waiting.
For parents who would like their children to be seen for an acute illness (fever, earache, vomiting etc.), a "drop-in" clinic is held Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 8:45 AM. No appointment is required. There is no drop-in clinic on holidays or on Saturday mornings.
