It’s hard to believe I joined Lamorinda Pediatrics in 1985! I was a young mom of two girls, having just finished residency. I had played tennis with Dr. Shimizu, a retired partner, during residency at Children’s Hospital Oakland (now UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital) and we had a great time. They needed to add a woman to their 3 man practice and I wanted to work part-time. It has been a joy ever since!
I grew up in Southern California, born to immigrant parents from Germany. My father was a physician and spent World War II being a medic in the American concentration camp as a prisoner of war. He was a great role model for me. I attended UCSB with a major in zoology and attended medical school at Boston University. I met my husband Ron there at Park St. Church on the Freedom Trail and we were married after my 2nd year. We moved to the Bay Area with our one year old daughter, Corrie, so I could residency at Children’s Hospital Oakland. Erica was born at the end of my residency before I joined Lamorinda Pediatrics. Corrie is a professor of animation and Erica has just finished an Alaskan season as a National Park Ranger, having moved to North Carolina with her army husband. (She did complain growing up about hiking and backpacking!)
I love to take photos of wildflowers on my hiking and backpacking trips. I have participated in over a dozen medical mission trips overseas in Africa and Latin/South America which really makes me appreciate our medical care we have in the States. I have been coordinating a Moms group at my church for over 25 years and love working with new moms.
