I grew up in Healdsburg, CA, riding horses and loving animals. It seemed a natural fit to become a veterinarian, and so I started college at Cal Poly as an animal science major. I realized over time that while I loved the science, I really wanted to interact more with people (although you could say being a pediatrician is like being a vet at times!!) so I changed my major to biology. I went to medical school in Chicago and loved every minute of being in a big city (even the snow and frigid temperatures) but I loved the training program at Children's Hospital Oakland, so back to the bay area I came.
During my training at Children's, I was able to meet all of the doctors at Lamorinda Pediatrics. Dr. Shimizu was my first "ward attending"- he had such a gift for understanding not just the medical problem at hand, but how it affected both the child and the whole family. I worked as a hospitalist at both John Muir and Children's Hospital after I finished my training, but when Dr. Shimizu and the group at Lamorinda Peds offered me a position, I jumped at the chance. I have loved working with this incredibly dedicated, intelligent and fun group of doctors since (and I still can't believe it has now been over 10 years!)
I now live in Lafayette with my husband Bob, and our two boys Matthew and James. I came kicking and screaming from San Francisco to the suburbs, but have grown to love Lafayette and all the families I am lucky enough to interact with everyday at Lamorinda Pediatrics.
