I was born and raised in Berkeley, California. I completed my undergraduate studies at UC Santa Cruz, receiving my BA with Honors in Biological Sciences in 1982. I then moved to Los Angeles to study medicine at The Keck School of Medicine at USC. During my residency at Oakland Children's Hospital, I was fortunate to be assigned to a team led by Dr. Peter Sheaff from Lamorinda Pediatrics. Peter was a skilled clinician, with a huge practical knowledge of pediatrics, and an even larger heart. When he invited me to work with him at Lamorinda Pediatrics, I was excited at the opportunity. That was in 1990, and I have been enjoying my practice of pediatrics at Lamorinda Pediatrics ever since.
In addition to my love for the practice of pediatrics and adolescent medicine, I enjoy cycling, skiing, hiking, travel, and working on pediatric health programming in Zimbabwe as the Director of the JF Kapnek Trust / Children's Health Fund-Zimbabwe. I live with my wife, Dr. Marianna Eraklis, who is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician, and enjoy spending time with our young adult children, Alexi and Tasia.
